GivingFest provides retuning citizens a bit of holiday cheer

GivingFest—hosted by the NEW Reentry Council—provided more than 150 meal boxes and toys to families of Nash, Edgecombe, and Wilson County citizens returning to society. The program ensured residents returning home after incarceration had an enjoyable holiday season as they work to rebuild their lives.

“Every family deserves a holiday meal this time of year,” said Anita Lynch, program coordinator for Nash/Edgecombe counties, the NEW Reentry Council. “Every child deserves to unwrap a gift during this special time of year. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, we have helped bring a bit of holiday joy to returning citizens and their families.”

After collecting monetary and product donations from sponsors, The NEW Reentry Council staff shopped for food, toys, clothes, and gift cards, then assembled and delivered the gift and meal boxes to the local families. “I’m thankful that the NEW Reentry Council cares about my well-being,” said NEW Reentry client Mr. Corby. “Their support has helped transform my life.”

The council partnered with Sharpsburg Town Commissioner Linda Virgil, Gilbralter Church on the Rock, Tarboro, N.C., and The Reach Center, Rocky Mount, N.C., for support in distributing the gift boxes.
