NEW Reentry Services provides referral assistance for all community members and comprehensive case management/supportive service assistance for enrolled program participants. The program seeks to enroll “high risk and high need” persons with criminal histories living in Nash, Edgecombe, or Wilson, NC counties. Supportive service assistance is provided based on individual client needs and primarily involves employment, transportation, and/or housing-related support. Areas of support include:
Employment: assistance with work clothes, tools, equipment, or hygiene items; education/vocational training support including tuition assistance or school supplies.
Transportation: transportation assistance for travel to and from job searches, interviews, work, or class.
Housing: emergency rental assistance.
Comprehensive case management: includes, but is not limited to, risk/needs assessment, job search assistance, financial planning/budgeting, and referral services to address a range of other client needs.
The program began operation in March 2014 and ended its first program period in June 2015. During this 17 month period, four hundred and thirty-six (436) persons with criminal histories received job-search assistance and referrals to other local resources. One hundred and thirty-five (135) persons, including 19 women and 116 men, enrolled and participated in the program. Of the 135 enrolled clients, 82, or 61% obtained jobs and 41 or 30% earned an educational/vocational credential within the program period.
